The JBDB Origin Story

I am a carpenter by trade, turned field supervisor, or superintendent. I left a job at one of the top nationwide builders to start this company. At the time I was running the façade restoration program for the Waldorf Astoria rehab. My job for many years was the technical side of building. It was to understand what was being built, plan it and execute it. I was the guy who gave it to everyone straight, good bad or indifferent.

When my wife and I moved to Cranford, we were living the dream of buying and making a house a home. We sought out an architect, had plans drawn for a small addition and a new kitchen. We put it out to bid to three local contractors. That's when I was introduced to the residential construction world.

At the time I had been working in commercial construction world for a decade. I had executed millions of dollars of contracts and managed probably ten times that amount of work. I couldn't shake the thought that I could bring method to the madness. I had been doing it at the highest levels for years. So, I jumped.

The JBDB Origin Story

The goal of JBD Builders is to bring that high level of service and predictability that I have learned to the residential market. Maybe give these other guys a run for their money. In commercial construction there is the expectation that you finish on schedule, you finish on budget, and you communicate regularly and openly throughout the process.

Here is how we are different:

1 - I am going to give you the cost for your entire project. Cabinets, light fixtures, even a final cleaning when we're done. Anything not in the number is made explicitly clear. Furniture, for example.

2 - We leverage technology. Everything is digital, the contract, the selection process, any changes. You sign off on everything as we go. You can access the budget, the schedule, all in real time from the JobTread platform whenever you want. JobTread is the top construction management software for residential construction, or it will be imminently.

3 - Our budget is itemized. You will see line by line what things cost.

4 - You will receive a schedule. It includes procurement timeframes and dates, as well as all major construction activities through punch list.

5 - We will hold weekly job meetings to review all of the above, budget schedule, etc.

6 - I will present my proposal to you. I will not just send you a number. There is a lot of information in these and it needs to be explained.
